Cascading Home Screen Menu

The step-throughs have an example with a simple one-level menu: each item in the menu is a simple action.

A powerful feature of Tasker is the ability for tasks to call each other, using the action Perform Task in the Tasker category.

We'll use that feature here to create some menus of settings through which you can browse backwards and forwards.

First, we'll create a Menu Task called Network.

  1. go to the Task Edit screen: click Tasks from the main screen.
  2. click New and add a Task called Network
  3. click the X icon in the bottom-right and select Menu
  4. click the ? icon in the bottom-right and pick a suitable generic icon (for instance, the antenna icon).
  5. click + and add a few network-related actions
  6. click + and add an action Tasker/Perform Task Cascade

Now we'll make another for games.

  1. click New and add a Task called Games
  2. click the X icon in the bottom-right and select Menu
  3. click the ? icon in the bottom-right and pick a suitable generic icon.
  4. click + and add a few Misc/Load App actions
  5. click + and add an action Tasker/Perform Task Cascade

Finally, we create a parent menu task called Cascade

  1. click New and add a Task called Cascade
  2. click the X icon in the bottom-right and select Menu
  3. click the ? icon in the bottom-right and pick a suitable generic icon e.g. the menu icon.
  4. click + and add an action Tasker/Perform Task Network

(you can long-click on the Task field in order to select one)

  1. click + and add an action Tasker/Perform Task Games

There, the cascading menu is defined.

  1. click Done
  2. click Save on the Profile List
  3. create a home-screen widget, using the task Cascade

You should see be able to go backwards and forwards through the menus.
