You can use Tasker to enhance your battery life in many different ways. Here's a simple way…

Turn GPS off when not in use
Things like Google Latitude generally work quite happily when forced to only use the cell tower location, for example - and, frankly, that's enough for Latitude. You only need to activate GPS properly when you really need it. Here's how…

  1. Start a new profile - call it "GPS turned on"
  2. Click 'Application', and select those apps that use the GPS. I've chosen Maps, London Cycle, Navigation, Plane Finder… but just keep selecting the ones that you want to use GPS.
  3. Click 'Done'
  4. In the new task, under 'Misc', select 'GPS', and select 'on'
  5. Set an 'exit task' - and in this, under 'Misc', select 'GPS' and select 'off'

  4. Click 'Application', and select those apps that use the GPS. I've chosen Maps, London Cycle, Navigation, Plane Finder… but just keep selecting the ones that you want to use GPS.
  5. In the new task, under 'Plugin', select 'Secure Settings', and select 'Edit' under configuration and select on.
  6. Set an 'exit task' - and in this, under 'Plugin', select 'Secure Settings'', and select 'Edit' under configuration and select off.
