Send Google Talk Message

If you are new to SL4A and scripting, take a look at this wiki entry about using SL4A with Tasker.

This python script allows you to send an instant message to another gTalk user.

The script takes the following parameters:

Parameter Required? Description
%IM_USER Yes Your gTalk user ID, including the @gmail.com part
%IM_PSWD Yes Your gTalk password
%IM_TO Yes The address to which to send the IM
%IM_TEXT Yes The IM text

To run the script, create a Task (Misc / Run Script) to run sendIM.py, and include the parameters in a comma separated list in the "Pass Variables" section.

Task: sendIM
A1:Run Script [ Name:sendIM.py Terminal:Off Pass Variables: %IM_USER, %IM_PSWD, %IM_TO, %IM_TEXT ]

  • The script stands on its own without reference to other data or applications. It does not depend on or try to use other IM clients or accounts you may already have set up on your phone. It doesn't know about those other accounts, nor does it care what they are.
  • It depends on the user passing it parameters containing a valid user id and password for a gTalk account.
  • It doesn't allow you to send messages from non-gTalk accounts in it's current incarnation.

I'll monitor this thread for questions.
